چکیده

We present an XMM-Newton observation of the Seyfert-LINER galaxy NGC 7213. The RGS soft X-ray spectrum is well fitted with a power law plus soft X-ray collisionally ionised thermal plasma (kT = 0.18 −0.01 keV). We confirm the presence of Fe I, XXV and XXVI Kα emission in the EPIC spectrum and set tighter constraints on their equivalent widths of 82 −13, 24 +9 −11 and 24 +10 −13 eV respectively. We compare the observed properties together with the inferred mass accretion rate of NGC 7213, to those of other Seyfert and LINER galaxies. We find that NGC 7213 has intermediate X-ray spectral properties lying between those of the weak AGN found in the LINER M81 and higher luminosity Seyfert galaxies. There appears to be a continuous sequence of X-ray properties from the Galactic Centre through LINER galaxies to Seyferts, likely determined by the amount of material available for accretion in the central regions.

0 The Discovery of a Giant H α Filament in NGC 7213

The nearby Seyfert galaxy NGC 7213 has been imaged in Hα and HI with the CTIO 1.5 m telescope and with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), respectively. Optically NGC 7213 looks undisturbed and relatively featureless but the continuum-subtracted Hα image shows a 19 kpc long filament located approximately 18.6 kpc from the nucleus. The Hα filament could be neutral gas photo-ionized by ...

Discovery of high - amplitude X - ray variability in the Seyfert – LINER transition galaxy NGC 7589

We present the first result of a programme to search for large flux variations in the X-ray sources of the XMM Serendipitous Survey compared to previous ROSAT observations. An increase in X-ray flux by a factor >10 was discovered from the nucleus of the galaxy NGC7589 on a timescale of less than 5 years. The 0.4–10keV XMM spectrum can be approximated by a power-law with photon index of 1.7–1.8,...

The X - ray properties of the nearby LINER galaxy , NGC 4736

NGC 4736 is a nearby Sab spiral galaxy, hosting one of the closest examples of a LINER nucleus. We have utilized recent observations by ROSAT and ASCA to characterise the X-ray properties of this galaxy. Twelve discrete X-ray sources are detected within the region subtended by its optical disk, the majority of which are likely to be X-ray binaries associated with the galaxy. By far the brightes...

Hard X-ray Emission and the Ionizing Source in LINERs

We report X-ray fluxes in the 2–10 keV band from LINERs (low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions) and low-luminosity Seyfert galaxies obtained with the ASCA satellite. Observed X-ray luminosities are in the range between 4×10 and 5×10 ergs s, which are significantly smaller than that of the “classical” low-luminosity Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4051. We found that X-ray luminosities in 2–10 keV o...

Subarcsec Emission in Seyfert Galaxies: the Nuclear Component in the L- and M -bands

We present deep L(3.8 μm) and M (4.7 μm) band imaging with ISAAC on the ESO VLT with unprecedented spatial resolution of the nearby Seyfert 2 galaxies NGC 7496 and NGC 7582 and the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7213, all at comparable distance. The unresolved nuclear component dominates the emission within the central 90 pc region, while the host galaxy accounts for up to 50 % of the integrated emission...
